I’ve heard that you should replace a laptop battery every two years. I’ve also heard that it should be replaced once it can’t keep a very long charge like it used to. At what point should it be replaced?

My laptop uses lithium ion batteries. People recommend that I don’t completely discharge it and I should start charging at 40%. Is that true?

I just got a new laptop and I heard that one should remove the battery when the computer is plugged in to keep the battery from dying quickly. In my old laptop I left the battery in all the time, I don’t think I ever removed it.

Should I remove the battery when I have the computer plugged in? Should I just keep the battery in the computer all the time? Is there a difference?

Well, it’s considered good practice to first allow all the power in your laptop’s battery to drain out (from use, without the laptop being connected to the power), and then plug in the power to recharge it fully. This ensures all the cells within the battery get discharged and recharged and none die before the other, therefore ensuring longevity for the battery.

However, it is a must to go by this process every single time?
