How many hours does it run?

I thought you were supposed to charge them fully, then let them drain almost completely, then charge them, and so on.

But this month’s issue of PC World says that’s only the case for (older) nickel-cadmium batteries, and that current lithium-ion batteries have “the opposite problem”—does that mean they best keep their capacity if you leave them plugged in as much of the time as possible?

I searched around on the Internet for some info about what I need to know, and so far, no such luck, so here goes:
I have a dead Laptop Li-ION battery pack in my possession, and i decided to tear it apart to find out how it works. Much to my suprise, 2 of the 9 cells in the battery pack had some charge left in them, so I destroyed the casing, and circuitry to get the cells out. I did some preliminary research online and found out that lithium is (obviously) very dangerous, even in battery form. Improper charging can cause damage to the cell (best case) to even a thermal runaway reaction leading to an explosion (worst case). Aside from that, lithium is very toxic, so needless to say, very dangerous stuff to play around with.
Which leads me to my question: How should I go about charging these cells to get some use out of them? Or is it just too risky to try? If I should just get rid of them, how should I go about this?
Obviously, I can’t dump these in the land fill, or can I?

I have an old computer that recently lost it’s hard drive to old age. Everything else works, so in the interest of the environment, I have decided to put it on eBay for someone to reuse rather than throw out. I know the USPS lists Li-Ion batteries as hazardous, and I want to know if I can package it a certain way, or send it with another shipper in order to ship safely.

I saw that under laptop information and I was wondering what that means.

How long can an average 6 cell battery last?

I know lithium-ion batteries run for a certain amount of charge-discharge cycles, but I don’t know if any cycles occur while the battery is fully charged and plugged in.

I have an Acer Extensa laptop with a Lithium Ion battery (model number TM00741) should it be charged fully, or discharged completely. I have even heard to store it at about 40% capacity. I wont be using that much as I will be using d/c power mostly, also I dropped it once will that affect the life of it? Thanks 10 points to best (and supported) answer
