I just bought a new laptop, an ideapad y550. So I am wondering what the best way to use the batter is. I have heard mixed things about the subject. I have heard to let your battery run all the way down the charge it all the way up. I have heard to plug it in as often as possible. I have heard that once the battery is fully charged you should unplug it right away, and things like you should take the battery out when its plugged in. So I am really not sure what to think. Any advice?

I bought a new laptop recently and I have a question about the battery vs. charger.

I leave my laptop on all the time or in hibernation. When the battery is fully charged but I still want to leave my computer on, should I leave it plugged in or use the battery? If I use the battery, all day I am rotating battery and charging and it gets to be a hassle.

I just got a new laptop battery for my Dell Inspiron 400. The battery works fine, and the battery meter is functioning but the battery meter changes rapidly frequently and is unreliable. I was wondering if this is because I have a new battery. If this is the reason what can I do to fix it. Please only post informational answers.

I’m on tour about 300 days a year. Here’s a great little gadget I use to stay plugged in and productive while on the road. BTW, it also comes with a car charger (which makes it even more useful). For more tips like these, and to get your freebies, visit www.joshuaseth.com

I’m looking for a definitive answer here as I’ve read conflicting answers all over the web.

I’ve got a new netbook and want to keep the 9+ hours battery life as long as I can. Should I be running the battery from the mains when I can or from the battery? Should I be running the battery flat each time before plugging in? Can I plug in on 50% charge without ruining the battery?

Intelligent, researched and qualified answers to this age old question required…
Good solid answer…but what about leaving it plugged in during use?

I searched around on the Internet for some info about what I need to know, and so far, no such luck, so here goes:
I have a dead Laptop Li-ION battery pack in my possession, and i decided to tear it apart to find out how it works. Much to my suprise, 2 of the 9 cells in the battery pack had some charge left in them, so I destroyed the casing, and circuitry to get the cells out. I did some preliminary research online and found out that lithium is (obviously) very dangerous, even in battery form. Improper charging can cause damage to the cell (best case) to even a thermal runaway reaction leading to an explosion (worst case). Aside from that, lithium is very toxic, so needless to say, very dangerous stuff to play around with.
Which leads me to my question: How should I go about charging these cells to get some use out of them? Or is it just too risky to try? If I should just get rid of them, how should I go about this?
Obviously, I can’t dump these in the land fill, or can I?

I heard a lot of different methods for protecting & preserving the life of a lithium ion battery (Laptop & iPhone) Should I empty them completely & then charge them to 100% or keep them fully charged whenever I can? As for the laptop, do I work with it while plugged or do I empty the battery & recharge it?

I have a DELL Inspiron 1525. Its new and has a 6 cell Li-Ion battery. Should I always keep it connected to the mains, even when its fully charged? Or should I charge fully, disconnect from mains, run it down, then recharge? What will ensure it lasts the longest and still provides me with 3 hours of charge when I need it?
Thanks

I have an Acer Extensa laptop with a Lithium Ion battery (model number TM00741) should it be charged fully, or discharged completely. I have even heard to store it at about 40% capacity. I wont be using that much as I will be using d/c power mostly, also I dropped it once will that affect the life of it? Thanks 10 points to best (and supported) answer

I have a Toshiba L45-S7423 laptop, and i am wondering, what is the best way to take care of the Lithium Ion battery, that it has, to get the longest life out of it?
